Review: Mario Kart 8 is absolute perfection

Mario Kart 8 review

AMAZING: Mario Kart 8 is a flawless experience.
AMAZING: Mario Kart 8 is a flawless experience.

I’ll be honest with you, I was playing Mario Kart 8 pretty much all weekend after picking up my copy from Game at Springfields last Friday.

Last week I mentioned that all of the hype surrounding Nintendo’s latest trip to the track suggested that this was the best title in the series. And I’m happy to report that Mario Kart 8 is absolutely incredible.

Nobody creates video games that have that uncanny ability to make you smile quite like Nintendo.

Right from the off, the new circuits are simply beautiful – with the fresh zero-gravity sections effortlessly added to the tried and tested formula.

Having racked up hours of track time, the circuits just never get old. Cloudtop Cruise, Sunshine Airport and Mount Wario are currently my favourite three, but each and every stage offers something that little bit different.

As ever, there are unlocks galore – now done through collecting coins a-la Mario Kart 7 on the 3DS. And the all-new “super horn” now allows you to block that dreaded blue spiny shell.

Just a great, great game.
