Lincolnshire Police has appealed for more members to join its Police Independent Advisory Group (IAG).
South Holland currently has no representative on the IAG, said Sergeant Jon Putnam of Lincolnshire Police.
“We try and populate the IAG from all over the county to ensure that every area gets represented, but currently we don’t have anyone from South Holland on the group, so applications from the Spalding area would be welcomed,” said Sgt Putnam.
In a call for new members, Police and Crime Commissioner Marc Jones said: “Joining the IAG is a chance for people to represent their community in this vital role ensuring Lincolnshire Police responds to the needs of the people they serve.”
The IAG comprises unpaid volunteers whose input helps to guide the force.
The main duties of the members are to regularly attend meetings of the IAG and any sub-groups they join.
Sgt Putnam said: “The IAG mainly meets at force headquarters in Lincoln, but also meets elsewhere to ensure it represents the interests of the whole county. For example, last month’s meeting was held in Boston.”
The website states duties include: “Proactively bringing issues of concern to meetings, questioning and challenging where appropriate,
“Participating with the IAG in assessing and prioritising the work it undertakes and providing advice on specific issues.”
These issues include critical incidents (murder, serious assault, repeat victimisation and domestic violence), improving the community’s trust and confidence in the police, providing police training support and to keep up to date with political or community issues affecting the police.
Police said they were looking for applicants who can effectively contribute to the development of quality advice and can confidently articulate views of communities in their area.
Applicants must also have no serious convictions or serious allegations against them. Security checks might also be enforced.
