Holbeach A won the battle of the heavyweights in Division One of the Spalding and District Snooker League as they pegged back leaders Bourne SC A 4-2 on Thursday night.
A black-ball win from Colin Dodds (O7) in the opening frame set the tone for second-placed Holbeach, before Mick Ayres (O7) and Mick Pearl (O14) won the final two frames to clinch a memorable win.
Mark Gray (O105), who was one of Bourne’s two frame winners, made a fine 46 break – but his side are now just five points clear of their conquerors at top tier’s summit.
Behind them, third-placed Services E earned a 5-1 triumph over fourth-placed Pyramid A to move within eight points of the table-toppers.
Martin Spencer (O14) made a 24 break and Chris Dunmore (O7) added a 22 clearance for the victorious Spalding side.
Another of the high-flying sides, Holbeach C, suffered a 4-2 loss at Tulips B. A 25 clearance from Mark Woodberry (O56) in a black-ball win over Damian Lewis (O7) was the highlight.
Donington C also lost ground after a 5-1 loss at Consti B, although Neil Reynolds (O49) made breaks of 32 and 26.
At the other end of the table, Tulips A finally got their first win of the season. They won 4-2 at Long Sutton A, who stay bottom.
In Division Two, Services C hold a four point advantage at the top following a 4-2 triumph at nearest rivals Boundary C. Two wins from Nigel Cherry (O14) and a Mark Spiller (O7) success saw them home.
Third-placed Whittlesey C failed to capitalise on the top two meeting as they went down 4-2 at Gosberton A, despite a 20 break from Andy Gebbie (R7).
Meanwhile, Pyramid D won 4-2 at Donington B as James Sharpe (O42) sank a cool 28 break.
Down in Division Three, Crowland C made it nine wins from as many games with a super 6-0 win over Pyramid E.
Russ Morse (O14) made a 22 break to help his side move ten points clear at the top of the table.
It was also a good week for Whittlesey B, who finally notched their maiden victory of the campaign.
A 25 clearance from Andy Skutela (R14) helped the strugglers see off Consti C 4-2 and move off the foot.
Gosberton B replace them at the bottom after suffering a 4-2 home defeat against Gosberton B.
