Spalding Indoor Bowls Club picked up a big victory over county rivals Grantham in the Egham Trophy.
Sunday’s match was played with two rinks at each venue, with Spalding romping to an overall 107-53 victory.
At home, Matt Whyers won 40-6 and Martin Spencer won 18-16.
At Grantham, meanwhile, Ashley Caress lost 14-22 and Jordan Philpott won 35-9 to ensure SIBC made progress in the national competition.
- Spalding IBC’s mixed league team took part in a high quality game at Louth on Saturday.
They came away with four match points courtesy of two winning rinks, the best of which was John Laud, Janet Staples, Betty Deaton and skip John Needham.
The overall score was 106-79 in Louth’s favour.
- Spalding IBC over-60s played their second game of the season at Skegness on Thursday – and it was a cracker.
Spalding were always going to struggle on the very fast carpet at Skegness and, at the half-way point, they found themselves 16 shots behind – despite being ahead on three rinks.
Spalding gradually pulled back on the aggregate (worth eight points) and – going into the last end – were three shots ahead. But Skegness scored six shots over the five rinks to finish three shots
to the good, despite the visitors winning on two rinks.
The final result was 14-4 (99-96 shots) in Skegness’s favour, with the best winning rink for Spalding being skipped by Maurice Elding. He was ably assisted by new squad member Maurice Arbon, Paul Lockie and Derek Overton.
Captains for the day were David Lunn and Graham Hicks.
- Spalding IBC’s friendly bowlers enjoyed a 125-70 win over the Lincolnshire VPs in their latest match.
Spalding took an early lead and led 63-33 at the half-way stage. They extended that advantage and eventually prevailed by 55 shots, winning five out of the six rinks.
The best winning rink was Jan Sinclair, Paul Lockie, Trish Stafford and skip Mick Laidler, who won 29-5. Captains of the day were Ian and Trish Stafford.
