Dunn wants high-flying Pinchbeck United to keep the pressure on with win double

Red-hot Pinchbeck United are eyeing up top spot in ChromaSport UCL Division One ahead of two games against teams in the bottom seven.

The third-placed Knights, who have won five of their last six, welcome Irchester United to the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field on Saturday (3pm), before making the short trip to Oakham United on Wednesday night (7.45pm).

With Pinchbeck then having a free weekend, player/boss Ian Dunn is demanding six points from the fixtures – which coulf see them go top of the table by 9.30pm on Wednesday.

And, with both Spalding United and Holbeach United away this weekend, Dunn is calling on local football fans to have a look at his team on Saturday (entry is just £3).

Dunn said: “It’s important that we keep winning and keep that momentum going.

“If you look at the next two games, it’s vital that we keep the pressure on with us not having a game the following weekend.

“We’ll do our homework on both sides, but obviously we’ll be favourites to win both.

“There are some big fixtures elsewhere too, so there’s a chance we could go top come 9.30pm on Wednesday night.

“That has to be the aim for us. We’ve got a big squad that is capable of playing in different ways.

“We had 49 watching us on Saturday. Hopefully a few more will be there this weekend – we think £3 is great value to watch UCL football and, with Spalding and Holbeach away, I’d love to see a few new faces.

“We’ve transitioned to the UCL very well, but perhaps our main problem will be that our squad is actually too big. If we have everyone available, which has been a rarity, we’d have to let quite a few players down.”

Tom Brooks (suspended) and Chris Shipley (injured) miss Saturday’s game.

Meanwhile, Dunn has made a move for Stamford Lions striker Luke Ball – who has 13 goals in nine games this season – as he continues his bid to add fresh blood to the Knights’ attack.

Zak Munton (Peterborough Northern Star) and Jake Clitheroe (Tydd St Mary) both turned down moves to Pinchbeck last week.
