Approval likely for more than 80 homes in Donington

Proposals for more than 80 new homes in Donington look likely to be approved despite a raft of objections.

An application has been submitted for 6.5 acres of land off Town Dam Lane for 81 dwellings.

The parish council has objected, claiming the “significant development” was too close to two previous applications already approved.

“There is already a deficiency in social services as both schools are at capacity and children will have to be transported to school elsewhere,” said a report due to go before South Holland District Council’s planning committee last night.

But the county council has requested an education contribution via a Section 106 provision of £407,026 while the NHS wants £35,964 for health provision.

There have also been 17 objections from members of the public.

The effects of more traffic, access points and fears that full enclosure and screening of a skate park “may lead to misuse of the area” are among those listed.

The emerging Local Plan for South East Lincolnshire has the site as a “preferred option” for development but a report to the planning committee said the “application is for a greater capacity than that identified,” which was 20 per hectare as opposed to the 30 planned.

“This is, however, a broad indication of numbers only,” said the report.

“It is anticipated that the proposed development can be achievable on the site without there being unacceptable harm to existing residential amenity,” the report added.

The application would provide 19 affordable homes within the development, including rented or shared-ownership.

The applicant is Ashwood Homes.
