Taboo-buster play about men’s health comes to Spalding

A laugh-out-loud-funny play which balances humour with its serious subjects at heart is coming to the South Holland Centre.

Growth, written by Luke Norris, tackles the subject of a young man dealing with testicular cancer.

Luke is an actor who appeared as Dwight Enys in the recent BBC adaptation of Poldark.

He is also an award-winning writer for stage, screen and radio.

The critically acclaimed Growth was performed at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2016, where it won a Fringe First award, and has already completed one successful tour.

Despite its specific subject matter, Luke says the play encompasses the general worries of life.

“The main event happened to a friend of mine but the play isn’t at all biographical.

“It’s really about how life forces you to grow-up by insisting you make decisions and take responsibility for all manner of things, like it or not.

“It’s as much about my fear of completing a tax return or going to the dentist as it is about testicular cancer – and in dramaturgical terms, I don’t think a play about a serious topic would even work without some laughs”.

Now on its second national tour, Growth comes to the South Holland Centre, Spalding on Saturday, September 30 at 7.30pm. Tickets are £12.50, £11 concessions and just £7.50 for under 26s from the Box Office 01775 764777 or www.southhollandcentre.co.uk Suitable for ages 14+.
