A stellar 57 clearance from Spencer Dawkins was the highlight of the third round of fixtures in Spalding and District Snooker League – but his Pyramid B side were beaten last Thursday night.
Dawkins (O49 handicap) made the impressive feat in a second-frame success over Consti F’s Warren Peel (O7), but watched on as Justyn Stanley (R14) beat team-mate Keth Duly (O21) on a re-spotted black in the final frame.
The 4-2 win for Consti leaves both sides on seven points after three games.
At the top, pace-setters Services E and Bourne SC A both made it three wins from as many matches.
Services have 16 points from a possible 18 after handing hosts Long Sutton A a 5-1 home reverse. Breaks of 24 and 21 from Martin Spencer (O14) and Vince Fitter (O21) helped them on their way to another victory.
Bourne SC A are two points behind them after knocking off hosts Tulips A 4-2. However, Bren Bowman’s (O49) 35 clearance was the game’s stand-out moment.
Elsewhere in the top tier, a 30 break from Ady Sibley (O14) was in vain for Tulips B as they went down 4-2 at Holbeach D.
Also enjoying 4-2 wins were Boundary A and Pyramid A, over Holbeach C and Consti B respectively.
In Division Two, the top four sides are also locked together on 11 points.
Two of those sides – Boundary C and Holbeach B – both suffered their first losses of the season, though.
Holbeach went down 4-2 at Services A as Jon Bettinson (scr) sank a 24 break, while Boundary went down to a James Sharpe-inspired Pyramid D side. Sharpe (O42) hit a super 52 break for the Bourne boys, while Dennis Pearson (scr) added a 22 clearance in a 4-2 victory.
Those results allowed Services C, who beat Long Sutton B 5-1, and Crowland A (4-2 triumph over Consti H) to join them at the summit.
Three sides are just a point further back, led by promoted Long Sutton C. They beat Donington B 4-2 on their home baize, with Susan Lefley (scr) sinking an 18 break.
Meanwhile, breaks of 27 and 24 from Pete Holland (O28) couldn’t stop Services F losing 5-1 at Gosberton A.
Down in Division Three, a trio of teams boast three victories from as many matches.
Consti I lead the way after a 4-2 win at previously unbeaten Bourne SC B, although Pete Hodgson-Kerry (O35) did pocket a 27 break for the beaten hosts.
Crowland C, level on points with Consti, also kept their perfect start going with a 4-2 success at Gosberton C.
Joel Shears (R14) settled that one in the final frame.
Services B complete the list of teams with three wins, having pipped Pyramid E 4-2. Steve Sharpe’s (R7) 29 break was a consolation for the beaten Bourne side.
However, the best break in Division Three came from Consti J’s Nick Keeble (O35).
He made a superb 38 as his side won an all-club affair with Consti D 4-2.
Services D were also on-song, beating Whittlesey B 6-0 for maximum points.
