It’s crunch time for the judges of the Pride of South Holland 2017 awards – and it’s an unenviable task.

For the third year running, the people of South Holland have been putting forward the unsung heroes of our district for the coveted honours.

And the standard of entries has once again been amazing.

Those wonderful people who give up their time to help others – whether it’s just a casual helping hand for a neighbour or countless hours as a volunteer for a good cause or charity – now have a nail-biting wait to find out if they have won.

Following last week’s deadline for entries, that decision now rests with judges from the groups and business which have sponsored the nine Pride categories.

The categories are Service with a Smile, Charity Worker, Caring Neighbour, Volunteer of the Year, Community Hero, Lifetime Achievement, Community Sports Group, Young Achiever and Senior Citizen.

The winners will be announced at the Pride of South Holland Awards ceremony at the South Holland Centre on Saturday, September 16, where the finalists and guests will be treated to a line-up of entertainment, organised and hosted by Tulip Events Management’s Jan Whitbourn.

Jan is hoping to repeat the resounding success of last year’s event which featured special guest Andy Whyment, well-known for his role as Kirk Sutherland in Coronation Street,

Down-to-earth Andy was a huge hit with the audience as he handed out certificates and trophies to the deserving winners as well as signing autographs.
