Spalding Town youngsters roar to brilliant Bash victory at Stamford

Spalding Town’s under-9 ‘A’ team romped to victory in the BGL Stamford Big Bash tournament.

Spalding entered two teams into the sixess tournament, which featured 16 teams from local clubs and was organised by former England cricketer Dean Headley.

The ‘B’ team won one of their three pool matches, but sadly missed out on any further progression.

However, the Spalding ‘A’ side beat Market Deeping and Ketton to book their place in the semi-finals.

In what was a nervy match, Spalding then beat Stamford by 17 runs to make it through to the final.

What followed was a very tense match, which included a Battle of Britain memorial flight pass in the middle of the match.

In the end, Spalding held on to beat Deano’s Dingos by nine runs to clinch the cup.

The team completed a lap of honour around the boundary in front of a growing crowd ready to watch a star-studded Dean Headley XI play a T20 match against local legends.

Team managers Michael Morris and Cameron Roy said: “We were delighted with both teams performances on the day, and was just reward for the hard work and commitment the players have made during their training sessions.”

The Spalding team included four players who have represented South Lincolnshire under-10s this season.
