Three more offences after pair arrested in burglary spree case

Two people arrested in connection with a string of burglaries at homes of the elderly in South Holland have been released pending further investigation.

The 25-year-old man and a 17-year-old girl were held on Friday (June 2). Police investigating the offences involving key safes being entered said property believed to be stolen had been recovered following the pair’s arrest.

A police statement said: “At this time both have been released from custody but remain under investigation pending further enquiries.”

The development followed the execution of a search warrant in Halmergate, Spalding, on Thursday.

Three further offences occurred in Spalding overnight on Sunday – in  Johnson Avenue, Oak Court, and Lime Court.

Police said: “Fortunately no entry was gained to any of the properties, and only the key safes were attacked.
“We continue to ask residents to be vigilant, and to report any suspicious activity when it is happening.”

More than 20 homes in Spalding, Pinchbeck, Cowbit, Moulton and Moulton Chapel have been the subject of burglaries or attempted burglaries.

South Holland community policing inspector Gareth Boxall said: “Anyone thinking of fitting a key safe or wanting to upgrade their existing one should give consideration to those manufactured to the ‘Secured by Design’ standard.
“Although no product is totally risk free, there are two ‘Secured by Design’ safes approved to the highest standard, the Keysafe Supra C500 and the Keysafe Supra P500. The latter can be linked to an alarm.”
