The Spalding and District Snooker and Billiards League celebrated another hugely successful season at their annual presentation night awards bash.
A host of trophies were dished out after a long season of action, including the three snooker league titles won by Tulips B (Division One), Long Sutton A (Division Two), Crowland A (Division Three) and the Billiards League crown to winners Long Sutton.
The league’s top prize, the Highest Achievement Award, went to snooker and billiards cue ace Mick Johnson this year.
Johnson, who plays for Consti, has been a regular winner of trophies across the two sports over the years and is best known for being one of the leading lights on the billiards scene – something that has earned him county and international recognition.
Fixtures secretary Susan Lefley feels that Johnson is an incredible ambassador for the league and that he is a very deserving winner of the award.
Lefley was also delighted with the atmosphere of the evening at Spalding Services Club and thanked all who attended for their continued support of the league.
She said: “The event was very well attended and was one of the best we’ve had in a long time.
“Everybody seemed to enjoy themselves and the atmosphere was brilliant.
“On behalf of the league I’d like to thank everybody that attended, it’s very much appreciated.
“As for Mick, he’s a very deserving winner of our Highest Achievement Award.
“He’s been a leading player in both the snooker and billiards league for some time now – but it’s in billiards where he fares the best.
“He’s won a lot of trophies over the years and has made some huge breaks.
“But Mick is also a great ambassador for our league and is a shining example for other players to follow.
“He’s a brilliant player and we’ve been lucky to have him for such a long period.”
The league is expected to return in September, but plans are currently being scuppered by an ongoing tenancy problem for the Gosberton club.
It is hoped they can resolve their situation and that all four teams will be ready to roll in a few months time.
