Hayes hopes Holbeach can end on a high

Holbeach boss Seb Hayes is hoping his side can end their United Counties League Premier Division campaign on a high this weekend.
The Tigers bring down the curtain on their season with a home match against in-form Wellingborough at Carter’s Park with a seventh place finish secured.
But Hayes wants his charges to finish with a flourish against the visiting Doughboys who are unbeaten in their last nine league games and tamed the Tigers 3-0 in last month’s meeting at the Dog and Duck.
Hayes said: “Our home form has been reasonably good since I took over and I’d like that to continue.
“We have only lost twice at home in the league since I’ve been at the club, but it will be tough with so many lads currently out injured and against one of the form sides in the division.”
The severity of Holbeach’s injury crisis last weekend forced Hayes to play goalkeeper Rick Drury outfield while Tigers stalwart Dean Elston returned to first team duties at 48-years-old.
Both produced sterling performances as the Tigers scored five times in 23 minutes to run out 5-1 winners at Hayes’ former club Peterborough Northern Star.
Hayes said: “It was a really satisfying win considering we had a major injury crisis with nine or ten players missing.
“Dean was magnificent. He was an outstanding player back in the day and probably didn’t expect to earn a first team recall at 48 years of age.
“But he has kept himself fit and looks after his body. He’s a great reader of the game and was fantastic at the back for us.
“I wasn’t worried about playing Rick outfield because I knew he could do a job for me.
“We got a good hiding at Wisbech so it was good for us to dish it out and the shoe be on the other foot.
“We could have scored more with better finishing, but I was very pleased after a bad weekend the previous week.”
Stacy Cartwright and Dan Dougill are both expected to return to the Tigers’ ranks this weekend.
However, Callum Madigan is ruled out through suspension while Zak Munton, who scored twice in the weekend win, faces a late fitness test after being taken to hospital following a nasty bang on the head last weekend.
