South Lincolnshire Competitive Swimming Club has six new starting blocks at a cost of £11,797.
Spalding Beer and Music Festival, which is organised by Spalding Round Table and Spalding Ladies’ Circle, donated £3,212 towards the purchase. Parents of the swim club members helped man the bar at last year’s event.
Phil Cookson, fundraising chairman at the club, raised additional funding of £3,598 from Comic Relief and £2,400 from South Holland District Council, with the remaining funds raised through sponsorship of the club’s annual Tulip Open Meet competition held last May.
A club spokesman said: “The new starting blocks are freeboard adjustable footrest starting blocks complete with backstroke start devices and should enable the club’s current group of swimmers to compete at the highest standard.”
The Spalding club has now started fundraising towards its next project to replace the race timing equipment.
