PDFL round-up: Moulton Harrox Reserves keep double dream alive with semi-final shoot-out success

Keeper Wayne Wilding was the hero as Moulton Harrox Reserves won a dramatic PFA Challenge Cup semi-final on penalties to keep their double bid on-track.

Harrox, the runaway PDFL Division One leaders, went 1-0 up at Whittlesey Athletic Reserves on Saturday – but were pegged back by a late Daniel Redhead goal.

That forced penalties, with Wilding saving the first home penalty. Harrox kept their cool to score all five of their spot-kicks to progress 5-3 in the shoot-out.

The win for Kev Nottingham’s side was even more impressive given that Whittlesey fielded a number of players from last season’s first team. They will meet lower-graded Stanground Reserves in the final.

Elsewhere in the ChromaSport PDFL, Jordan Keeble’s strike couldn’t stop Holbeach United Reserves losing 3-1 at Stanground Sports in the Premier Division. Fellow top tier side Crowland Town are now bottom after going down 1-0 at previous basement boys Uppingham Town.

In Division One, Sutton Bridge United roared to a 9-0 victory at Riverside.

Top scorer Matt Eaton took his tally for the season to 45 with a five-goal haul, while Sam Cooper, Rob Hook, Kurt Scott and Aaron Rouse also bagged.

That keeps Bridge second in the table – but they are by no means favourites to clinch second place with rivals Warboys Town some four points behind them with three games in hand.

In Division Two, Tydd St Mary remain fifth after a 3-3 draw at lowly ICA Sports Reserves.

Behind them, sixth-placed Crowland Town Reserves lost 1-0 at home to Ketton Reserves.

Down in Division Four, Whaplode Drove drew 3-3 at FC Peterborough Reserves as they missed the chance to go fifth.
