Twinning group’s 60th birthday celebrations

South Holland’s town twinning group is gearing up for major celebrations to mark its 60th anniversary next year.

The Jumelage Group was formed in 1958 to create links with Spalding’s twin town of Sezanne in France.

Members of the twinning group make bi-annual visits and stay with French families in their homes, experiencing the culture and lifestyles for a long weekend and making visits to places of interest which often includes Paris.

They will be hosting their guests from Sezanne during their anniversary year and secretary Roy Ford is hoping to raise the profile of the group.

He said: “We are planning to organise some major celebrations to mark our 60th anniversary and hopefully this will help promote the Jumelage Group.

“We are always looking to recruit new members and are planning on holding events where we talk to people about the town twinning.

“There will be 30 of us on this year’s trip to Sezanne over the August Bank Holiday weekend.

“We are a friendly group and all age groups are welcome. Single persons, couples and families are invited to participate and host families are sought to match age and interests.

“The following year the group then hosts their correspondents over the August Bank Holiday weekend.

“Last year we had a splendid day at Sandringham with our guests on the group day out and also enjoyed a gala dinner on the Saturday evening, entertained by the Ukulele Orchestra.”

The first social event to promote the group will be a sausage supper on April 1 at the Fraiser Room in Surfleet (next to the church).

Anyone interested in knowing more about the twinning group is welcome to attend. For further information contact Roy on 01406 380777 or email roy_homelincs@live.co.uk
