Cash injection for construction of Holbeach food enterprise zone

The Holbeach food enterprise zone is one of the beneficiaries of £29.45m of government funding.

Greater Lincolnshire has secured the cash for a range of major projects designed to drive growth.

The Greater Lincolnshire Local Enterprise Partnership has been awarded the funding through the Single Local Growth Fund. It will be used to kick-start a host of schemes (subject to a full business case), including:

  • three food enterprise zones in Holbeach, Hemswell Cliff and Grimsby;
  • a new £5m centre for health science at the University of Lincoln;
  • a £6.5m skills capital programme, designed to attract investment and development in the higher and further education sectors;
  • an advanced engineering research and development centre created in partnership by Siemens and the University of Lincoln.

There are also projects that will improve transport infrastructure at key locations, unlocking housing and commercial developments.

Coun Colin Davie, executive member for economic development at Lincolnshire County Council and Greater Lincolnshire LEP board member, said: “This money will mean new jobs, new houses and new infrastructure for Lincolnshire.
“We’ve been tirelessly making the case that Lincolnshire is a good place to invest and produces a great return on that investment. The Government clearly supports that message.
“I’m particularly pleased they have made £6.5m available for three food enterprise zones in Holbeach, Hemswell Cliff and Grimsby. Our agri-food industry is massively important to the county economy, and these developments will provide a significant boost.”
