Half-day workshop in Spalding on managing volunteers

Community groups can take part free in a workshop on Monday focused on managing volunteers with extra support needs.

The workshop at South Holland District Council offices, in Priory Road, Spalding (1pm-4.30pm) is by Lincolnshire Community and Voluntary Service (LCVS).

Ruth Copleston, LCVS senior community development officer, said: “This half-day workshop gives an introduction to managing volunteers with extra support needs, whether those be temporary extra support needs for a long term volunteer or ongoing extra support needs for a new volunteer.”

The workshop aims to help participants identify different support needs, recognise the barriers people with extra support needs face when volunteering, explore how to reduce barriers to aid recruitment and retention, discuss how to inform all staff and volunteers in a positive manner, consider strategies to deal with potential hazards and have an awareness of the benefits to an organisation of diversifying its volunteer base.

Volunteers can access the course free. It is £10 to paid staff in the voluntary/community sector, £20 for public sector staff and £30 for private sector staff.
