Spalding and District Billiards League big-hitters Mick Johnson and Mick Cooper both reached the latter stages of the EABA English Grand Masters Billiards event at Nuneaton.
Having earned a place at the Attack Snooker Centre event via the south/east qualifiers in Cambridge, both managed to negotiate the group stage.
The duo were drawn to play each other in the quarter-finals, with Johnson – who plays for the Consti club – edging out Long Sutton’s Cooper to progress to the last four.
Although he was beaten in the semi-finals, both players did themselves and the league proud.
- Leaders Long Sutton broke the 100-point barrier in the Spalding and District Billiards League on Monday.
The table-toppers beat Gosberton B 7-0, with the above-mentioned Cooper (O160) making a 56 break and John Dawson (R30) adding a cool 27.
Their lead at the top remains 8.5 points after second-placed Donington also prevailed 7-0.
They crushed Crowland A, with Sid Shaw (scr), Ben Wrigglesworth (R60) and Jim Thompson (R40) making breaks of 26, 29 and 27 respectively.
The best break of the week also came in a whitewash win.
Crowland B cue ace Rob Childs (O230) made 62, 61, 48, 45 and 38 (unfinished) against Holbeach A.
Team-mate Paul Holland (R70) also made a 39, while Holbeach’s Hugh Pinner (O110) scored 38 and 37.
Elsewhere, Darrell Read (R50) top scored with a 25 break as Pyramid D beat hosts Consti D 5-2 and Ben Harding (R80) made a 24 break for Holbeach C – but saw his side beaten 4-3 by Holbeach.
John Bellerby (R90) also sank a 23 break as his Consti C beat Gosberton A 4-3.
