Snooker round-up: Big Whittlesey win sees Tulips B take command of Division One

Tulips B have taken over at the top of Spalding and District Snooker League Division One for the first time in recent months after a 5-1 victory at fellow high-fliers Whittlesey A.

A 28 break from Mark Woodberry (O49) in a frame win, plus further successes from Joe Garland (scr), Ady Sibley (O7) and Darren Woodberry (O35) clinched it for the Spalding side.

They are now two points ahead of long-term leaders Donington C – with a game in hand – after their rocky patch continued with a 4-2 loss at lowly Bourne SC A.

Black-ball wins from Mike Byrne (R14) and Oli Player (O21) proved key for the Bourne boys, while Ben Wrigglesworth (O21) made a 20 break in vain for Donington.

Pyramid B are just two points behind them in third after a fine 5-1 home triumph over Services A.

Alfonso Palumbo (O49) reeled off breaks of 49 and 33 for the Bourne side, while Spencer Dawkins (O49) pocketed two scores of 22.

However, Holbeach A slipped up 5-1 at Tulips A and are now seven points off the summit in fourth.

After going 1-0 down, Simon Law (scr), Mike Sampson (O14), Martin Anderson (O7) and Steve Smith (O14) all won frames to give the Spalding side glory.

Elsewhere in the top tier, Bryan Turnell (R14) made a fantastic 31 break for Consti F as he won the crucial final frame in a 4-2 win over basement side Services C.

Paul Daw (O7) also trousered a cool 30 break as his Holbeach D side saw off Pyramid A 5-1.

In Division Two, leaders Long Sutton A hurtled towards the 100-point mark with a 5-1 win at Whittlesey C.

Sean Swinburn (O35) starred for Sutton with breaks of 31 and 20 as they moved 17 points clear at the top.

Behind them, Holbeach C slipped up in the race for promotion as they went down 4-2 at home to Pyramid C.

Alan Jackson’s (O7) final frame victory clinched it for the Bourne side.

At the other end of the table, rock-bottom Gosberton D gave their survival hopes a shot in the arm with a 5-1 home win over fellow strugglers Consti I.

A 20 break from Shane Davies (O14) was their highlight.

Hobeach B also defeated Pyramid D 4-2 in a game that saw both Lee Pickett (O21) and James Sharpe (O49) make 22 clearances.

In Division Three, second-placed Long Sutton C failed to apply pressure on leaders Crowland A after going down 4-2 at Donington B. Wins from Phil Burrell (R7), Pete Burrell (R7) and Dave Banister (scr) got the job done.

Services B, in third, also slipped up 4-2 at home against Bourne SC B.

Darren Crosby (O35) and Lester Gaunt (O35) made breaks of 25 and 22 respectively for the away side.

But the best break at this level came from Nick Savic (O49), who made a 42 as Consti A beat Consti D 4-2.
