Eight South Holland GP surgeries trialling diagnosis by Skype and FaceTime

There are moves to use online technology such as Skype and FaceTime to allow ‘virtual clinics’ and remote diagnosis in south Lincolnshire.

South Lincolnshire Clinical Commissioning Group is exploring opportunities to be able to deliver its services differently and making use of new technology.

A spokesman said: “We are currently running a small pilot to offer TeleDermatology, which allows GPs to photograph skin lesions and send the images securely to a consultant dermatologist to diagnose whether further treatment is necessary or not. This, in most cases, saves patients a journey to hospital to see a consultant dermatologist.”

Surgeries across South Holland are taking part in the TeleDermatology pilot, including Abbeyview Surgery, Crowland; Littlebury Medical Centre, Holbeach; Gosberton Medical Centre; Moulton Medical Centre; Long Sutton Medical Group and Spalding’s Beechfield Medical Centre, Munro Medical Centre and Pennygate Surgery.
