All-round team effort praised as champions Moulton Harrox stay in hunt for title

Pleased Paul Crowson talked up a top team performance as Moulton Harrox walloped Wisbech Town Reserves 4-1 on Saturday.

A brace from Ben Allen, a Dan Woods penalty and a stunning individual effort from defender Ash Coddington earned defending ChromaSport PDFL Premier Division champions Harrox all three points at Broad Lane – and moved them back into second place.

Allen got the scoring under way with a low finish from inside the box, then Woods made it 2-0 from the spot.

But a dubious Aaron McKenna penalty early in the second half got Wisbech back in the game. That was, until Coddington waltzed past a host of players to fire home the pick of the goals and Allen buried a Marcus Parry cross to clinch the win.

Assistant boss Crowson admits that anything could happen in the title race and says his side are under no illusions as to how hard it will be to retain their crown.

He said: “It was an all-round effort, everybody did their job. Ben might grab the headlines because of his two goals, but Ashley’s was a great finish – especially on his weak foot.

“It’s tight at the top, four teams have a shout. Pinchbeck and Peterborough Sports have games in hand, but they’ve got to win them.

“Our next three games – Langtoft away in the league and cup games at Wisbech Reserves and Peterborough Sports Reserves – will shape our season.

“We’re under no illusions as to how tough it will be for us. We’ll just take it one game at a time and see where it takes us, starting at Langtoft on Saturday.”

Harrox: Kenealy, Groves, Johnson, Watkin, Coddington, McGuire, Steadman, King, Allen, Woods, Parry. Subs used: Bailey-Smith, Ball, Farrell.
