Spalding Lions celebrated its 43rd Charter with an evening of fun and formalities.

Distinguished guests, including Lion Zone Chairman Paul Whitworth and his wife Sue, Rotary Club of Spalding President Richard Thacker and his wife Jane and South Holland Rotary Club President Bruce Alexander and his wife Anne, joined members and their partners as well as Lions from clubs across the district at the event held at Spalding’s South Holland Centre.

Lion President Elaine Mothers reported that Spalding Lions had had a very successful year of fundraising, with proceeds going to a variety of community projects.

She said: “We are proud of our club’s service to the community. The Lions club members thank everyone who contributes to this important work. You are truly helping Lions make a difference in our community.”

The Melvin Jones Award was presented by Lion President Elaine to Lion Vice President Richard Briers.

This Fellowship Award (LCIF) is the highest form of recognition and embodies humanitarian ideas consistent with the nature and purpose of Lionism.

The recipient of this award becomes a model because of the exemplary service to his club and the community for which it serves.

After the formalities the entertainment began, with Tracy Moorhouse’s magnificent singing enticing guests on the dance floor.

Guests were also able to put their creative skills to the test by entering a competition for the best balloon creation from modelling balloons left on their tables.

A spokesman said: “The evening was a great success for all those made it happen and those that attended.”
