A dog-hosting business in Spalding is promoting its benefits in light of a government health warning issued on Wednesday.(Dec 28)
Public Health England says eight out of ten of people aged 40 to 60 either weigh too much, drink too much or don’t exercise enough. Its One You campaign is reaching out to provide free support and tools to help them live more healthily in 2017 and beyond.
Kerry Wells, who has run the Barking Mad franchise for ten years, says that is where her business can help.
“We are proud to fulfil a need for dog lovers who have sadly lost a beloved pet or who don’t want, or can’t commit, to the emotional and financial commitment of dog ownership,” she said.
“We offer the life-enhancing opportunity of becoming a ‘host’ by caring for other people’s pets whilst their owners are away and one of the important aspects of this is getting out for daily walks with the visiting dog. This arrangement is professionally arranged, fully supported and made easy to take part in, with the cost, administration and transport aspects all fully taken care of by ourselves.
“Having a dog to stay obviously provides a loving canine friendship and combats loneliness for hosts that live on their own. Also, just as important is being able to tap into the social benefits of joining a community of like-minded people.”
Local events such as coffee mornings and dog walks are arranged by Barking Mad, which also operates in Boston, Stamford, Peterborough and Rutland.
Kerry added: “There is a real feeling of belonging and of making a valuable contribution amongst the Barking Mad community.
