Three acts from legendary Bar-b-que event in 1967 to play Spalding beerfest 2017

Three acts from the legendary 1967 Bar-b-que event have been booked to play at next year’s Spalding Beerfest and Music Festival.

Soul act Geno Washington and The Ram Jam Band, rock act Sounds Force 5 and rhythm and blues and soul group Zoot Money will all feature – almost 50 years to the day since they appeared on the same Spalding bill as The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Pink Floyd and Cream.

Bar-b-que was a one-off event on May 29, 1967 at Tulip Bulb Auction Hall (where Holland Market is now).

Joint beerfest organisers Spalding and District Round Table and Spalding and District Ladies’ Circle are delighted with the bookings made by music organiser Mark Le Sage.

Festival chairman Sam Nundy said: “Getting these three acts is a great coup.
“Bar-b-que 67 was a hugely significant event in Spalding’s history and, with next year being the 50th anniversary of it, we’re thrilled to have them playing.
“It’s a great start to our planning of what we are sure will be another great beerfest.”

The three-day festival is at Spalding’s Castle Sports Complex between Friday, May 26, and Sunday, May 28.

This year’s inaugural event made more than £15,000 profit, which has been distributed to youth groups and projects in and around Spalding.

Tickets for next year’s event go on sale in the spring. News will be posted on Facebook page Spalding Beer and Music Festival.
