Tydd St Mary continued their rich vein of form with a great 4-1 ChromaSport PDFL Division Two win against Langtoft Reserves on Saturday.
Both teams were at each other from the off, each having good chances to score. Langtoft had the winds at their backs and were edging it until, on 23 minutes Tydd made the breakthrough when Tim Lowe struck a fierce shot on the break that deflected into the net for 1-0.
Langtoft did not take that lying down and, with the Saints unusually off their game, they equalised through Corey Kingston six minutes before half time to make 1-1 at the interval.
The second half was a completely different game. The Saints upped their game massively, having two shots within the first two minutes of the re-start.
With the wind now behind Tydd and a renewed sense of purpose, they took to the task of dismantling Langtoft.
On 50 minutes Tydd re-took the lead when Lowe turned provider for Darren Rawthorn to fire home at the near post for 2-1.
Chances came and went for the hosts, with Langtoft rarely threatening Karl Smith and Devon Furness, who stood strong at centre backs. Nick Ainslie was having a great game on the right of midfield for Tydd, time after time giving the Langtoft left back a torrid time to earn himself the man of the match award.
With just ten minutes to go Tydd made it 3-1 when super-sub James Woods picked out Max Burrell, who slammed home.
Just two minutes later The Saints made it 4-1. Woods, who was having a good game, found Ryan Jones on the left wing – and he delivered an inch perfect cross for the onrushing Woods to head in.
Man of the match Ainslie said: “It was a good performance in the second half from the lads. We played some good football and it was sweet to be a part of it.”
