Magpies boss unhappy with the attitude of his players despite cup victory

Long Sutton player-boss Matt Cawthorn questioned the attitude of his players despite overturning a two-goal deficit to reach the semi-finals of the Spalding Inter-Services Cup on Saturday.
The Magpies found themselves two goals down within the first 20 minutes of their home clash with Division Two side Pinchbeck Reserves.
And Cawthorn was unhappy with his players’ preparation which he felt was well below the standards expected at the London Road club.
He said: “Our attitude stank in the warm up. It was totally unacceptable and I won’t tolerate it again.
“It seems to be a reoccuring problem – we have a poor warm up and start the game sluggishly.
“My players need to have a little more respect for themselves and the club when turning up to play football.
“Individually and collectively, it was not good enough on Saturday.
“Luckily for us we came up against a team lacking the cutting edge as we could have been further behind.
“The second goal gave us the kick start we needed and we soon clawed our way back into the game.”
Goals from Fabio Ramos and Wes Wilson had put Pinchbeck into the ascendency before Sutton reduced the arrears.
Dan Bennett’s marauding run down the left created an opening for Martin Ward whose deflected shot rolled into the visitors’ net.
Matty Oliver was then fouled in the box and Cawthorn despatched the penalty to level the scores on the stroke of half-time.
Pinchbeck stood firm as Sutton dominated after the break until Cawthorn doubled his tally with a superb volley from 18 yards with 15 minutes remaining.
Ward then popped up to add a fourth with a headed finish from a Billy Radeloff corner.
Cawthorn added: “Sometimes the performances don’t matter if you get the right result, but I was disappointed with some peoples attitude as I think they thought it was going to be an easy game.
“No game is easy at this level especially against lower opposition as they tend to try harder to cause an upset. Credit to Dom Mason and his squad as they gave us a game.”
