Perfect month as five-star Pinchbeck go unbeaten

Pinchbeck completed the perfect October with a 3-1 victory over a resolute Uppingham Town team at Knight Street on Saturday.

Ian Dunn’s charges won all five of their games last month, scoring 21 goals and conceding just four.

Saturday’s victory was also their ninth successive win as they moved up to fifth place in the Peterborough League Premier Division table after a dominant display finally broke the visitors’ resistance.

Dunn said: “They came to limit their loss rather than go toe-to-toe with us.

“They played with just one up front and at times had six across the back. It was like playing attack against defence.

“But fair play to them though because it took us a while to finally break them down.”

After dominating proceedings in the opening period, Pinchbeck eventually broke the deadlock on the stroke of half-time.

Nick Bishop was the architect of the goal as he played a delightful ball for in-form frontman Ollie Maltby to head home at the far post.

However, the lead was short-lived as Uppingham equalised just after the restart as Brad Murrell made a rash challenge in the box and Martin Bennett converted the resultant spot kick.

Pinchbeck responded by regaining the lead just before the hour mark as excellent wing play from Liam Ogden created an opening for his cross to be headed home at the back post by Maltby for his 18th goal in 12 games.

Player-boss Dunn introduced himself from the bench for the last half-hour and saw two goalbound efforts blocked by some desperate Uppingham defending.

Defender Tom Brookes then headed home Pinchbeck’s third following a corner as the hosts continued to dominate without adding to their tally.

Dunn added: “We created chance after chance and really put them to the sword in the second half.

“They were making blocks on the line and their keeper has made some decent saves.

“The final scoreline probably flattered them, but we got the job done and it’s another three points on the board.”

Pinchbeck: Lovelace, Murrell, Lawe, Francis, Smith, Brookes, Edwards, Bishop, Maltby, Panton, Ogden. Subs: Used – Dunn, Shipley, Eyes. Not used – Gardner.
