New £1.46m buildings at Spalding primary school officially opened

Spalding Monkshouse Primary School now has two extra classrooms and a new, larger hall.

The aim of the project, managed by Lincolnshire County Council, was to expand the school to two-form entry with a capacity of 420 to meet demand for places in the area.

Headteacher Sue Goodsell said: “The school hall has been on the children’s wish list since I arrived here five years ago and so this, together with the classrooms and other updated facilities is a welcome boost for all.
“We’ve also got new stores and a servery, toilets and a remodelling to make a larger library area, meeting room and medical room.”

The official opening was carried out last Friday by South Holland and the Deepings MP John Hayes.

County council executive member for children’s services, Coun Patricia Bradwell, said: “We’re delighted to have contributed to this major £1.46m project. It means that we have valuable extra capacity to meet the extra demand for school places and provides the school with a much needed upgrade in facilities.

“We’re committed to supporting school projects like these where they will help relieve pressures on school places as well as improving the environment for children and school staff.”
