Thomas and Eyett fire Holbeach United into last eight of UCL Knockout Cup

Boston Town 0
Holbeach United 2

In-form Holbeach United booked their place in the quarter-finals of the ChromaSport UCL Knockout Cup with a comfortable 2-0 derby win at Boston Town on Wednesday night.

The Tigers took a 13th-minute lead when attacker Jordan Thomas saw his 20-yard strike find the corner via the hand of home keeper James Lambley.

And, despite creating numerous chances after that, Tom Roberts’ charges had to wait until 15 minutes from time for Aaron Eyett’s clincher against his former club.

Winger Eyett, who was perhaps the star man on the night, fired home a deflected effort with his right foot having cut in from the left.

Holbeach, finalists in the competition last season, were rarely threatened on the night – although their former frontman Alex Beck did miss the target with two decent first-half openings.

At the other end, Andrew Tidswell and Josh Ford also spurned decent opportunities before the break.

Skipper Jamie Stevens also saw a header cleared off the line in the second half, while Lambley kept out a Ford effort.

The only save Holbeach keeper Ricky Drury had to make all night came three minutes from time, as he expertly tipped a Curtis Revell attempt over.

It’s now two victories from as many derby matches at the DWB Stadium for the Tigers, who remain unbeaten in UCL matches this season.

Either Eynesbury Rovers, Olney Town or Rushden and Higham United await Holbeach in the last eight – with the Tigers drawn at home.

Tigers: Drury, Tinkler, A Jackson, N Jackson, Stevens, Warfield (Pinner 88), Tidswell, Thomas (Treacher 70), Eyett, Ford, Clitheroe (Smith 76). Not used: Walton, Roberts.
