Contract for Spalding Christmas lights going out to tender

The contract to handle Spalding town centre’s festive lighting is about to go out to tender – just seven weeks before this year’s switch-on.

The lights will be switched on on Friday, November 18, but as previously reported there will be no special event this year.

A council spokesman said: “South Holland District Council will be looking for suppliers to tender for an end to end service to manage its festive lighting in Spalding town centre.
“The contract will include annual installation and dismantling, storage and maintenance of the council owned festive lights.
“The contract will be for an initial three-year term, starting in time for this year’s Christmas lights switch-on commencing 18th November 2016 and will go out to tender at the end of September.”

Meanwhile, there is uncertainty about supply of a Christmas tree for Hall Place.
For the past few years, Weston garden centre Baytree Nurseries has supplied one to the council at no cost, but Baytree general manager Nigel Wallis told The Voice it will not happen this year due to a shortage of larger trees.
