The family of a cerebral palsy spastic quadraplegic have launched a £12,000 appeal to buy her a powered wheelchair which would transform her life.
It comes after Phoebe Matthews had the chance to try the chair which reclines, and helps her to sit and stand.
Mum Amanda said Phoebe’s face lit up when she was able to stand in the chair.
She added: “It was so great to see the smile on her face!
“Standing is a very important part of Phoebe’s physio programme. She does have a standing frame at home which we hoist her in and out of but she only goes in it once a day. This chair would allow more frequent standing as often and as long as Phoebe wanted.”
The chair can also straighten her legs and lie flat which would assist with her care.
Amanda said: “This is a great chair, however it costs more than we can afford. We can’t get help through the NHS to fund this chair as it is too expensive.”
Phoebe, who turns 16 next week, was born 16 weeks early, weighing just 1lb 10oz. Amanda and husband Shaun, of Meadway, Spalding, were twice told that she might die.
