Joint player/boss Matt Cawthorn admitted that his Long Sutton Athletic side were “dominated” by opponents Wittering in Sunday’s 5-2 ChromaSport PDFL Division One defeat.
The Magpies kicked off their season a week earlier than everybody else due to being part of the UCL and PDFL groundhop – but probably wish they hadn’t.
Goals from new signing Billy Oliver and Cawthorn himself weren’t enough for Sutton, with Carl Taylor forced to save a penalty to keep the score down.
Cawthorn said: “I was very disappointed with the quality of the pitch and the size of it was only inside the minimum.
“Against a very big and physical side we were dominated.”
Sutton are hoping to bounce back at home to Oakham United Reserves on Saturday (2pm), then host rivals Sutton Bridge United on Tuesday (6.30pm).
