Brooks bags a victory as Sleaford plays host to 16th annual “Will’s Day” event

The 16th annual running of the Michael Willerton Memorial Day saw a loyal band of friends head to Sleaford Golf Club to remember their late mate.

This once-a-year golf day allows the players to pay tribute to Michael – better known as “Will” – who died back in 2000.

Unfortunately, Will’s father Barry Willerton – who is a former Spalding postman now living in Spain – was unable to attend due to health reasons.

It is hoped that he will be well enough to take part in next year’s event at Elton Furze Golf Club on July 7, 2017.

However, his grandson Thomas Willerton was able to attend and present the prizes on the day.

Some 19 players turned out this year on what was a warm and quite pleasant day for golf.

The Sleaford course was also in excellent condition, with fast greens and tough rough as they were preparing for their own Club Championship.

The winner this year was Rick Brooks with 37 Stableford points.

He was just ahead of Martin Deacon with 36 points, with Adam Lees third on 34 points.

Last year’s winner, Frazer Town, finished fifth with 32 points.
