The latest blockbuster films could be screened in Spalding at the same time as in cinemas under a cost reduction proposal for the South Holland Centre.
Extra cinema screens is one of the possible benefits from South Holland District Council’s plan to bring in a “high quality operator” under a lease agreement.
It would mean residents not having to travel to cinemas in Peterborough, King’s Lynn or Boston to see the latest films – spending money outside this district.
The South Holland Centre currently has one screen and is only able to show films several weeks after they have been on general release.
Council deputy leader Nick Worth said: “We’re looking at the option of having two or three more cinema screens. They could be in the function hall and fold back to allow other uses of the hall.”
New business cases are being considered for the South Holland Centre, the council’s offices in Priory Road and Ayscoughfee Hall Museum and Gardens.
The council is looking at ways of reducing the cost of the three sites to the taxpayer while increasing what is on offer.
A reportto next week’s cabinet meeting says of the Ayscoughfee site that the council is considering “transferring the asset to a specialist external agency”.
Coun Worth said that was “badly worded” and denied it was a proposed offload.
