Schools urged to sign up for new initiative which may save lives

Schools across South Holland are being urged to take part in a new initiative aimed at raising awareness of alcohol, drugs and legal highs.
The scheme has been launched by Young Addaction Lincolnshire, a county-wide drug and alcohol service providing, treatment, early intervention and education to young people.
And they have already received the backing of Marc Jones, the recently-elected police and crime commissioner for Lincolnshire.
Mr Jones urged: “I would ask that all teachers, heads and governors please take advantage of this and bring it to your schools.
“You could just be saving a life.”
The aim of the sessions is for young people to demonstrate an understanding of what alcohol, drugs and legal highs are.
Hayley Child, substance misuse strategy co-ordinator for Lincolnshire, explained: “Students will be able to discover what effects they have on the body and to identify any signs.
“They will understand the laws relating to alcohol and drugs and improve their knowledge to make more informed choices.”
The county-wide service will be on offer for the next full academic year – September 2016 to August 2017 – and will remain free.
Sessions are a maximum of one hour and more information is available by calling 01522 550665.
