Orchard House Boarding Kennels: Home from home for your dog

When you go on holiday, so should your dog – that’s the view of Claire Purliant and her staff at Orchard House Luxury Boarding Kennels.

Dog lover Claire opened the Surfleet kennels at the beginning of December and prides herself on offering “the Hilton experience for dogs”.

Claire’s dad Ray Ellison and her sister Lucy Ellison-Rowe, both work part-time at the kennels, making it a real family affair.

The purpose-built kennels can cater for up to 16 dogs at a time. They are specifically designed to help your dog feel at home throughout their stay. As well as blinds, there are ticking clocks and radios for background noise.

Benefits of kennels include:

Spacious rooms
Double glazing
Fully insulated
Ample natural light
Under-floor heating
Relaxing music played all day and into the evening
Aromatherapy scents in the kennels to aid relaxation
Smoke detectors
CCTV for maximum on-site security

Each dog gets three outings a day in 4.5 acres of secure grassland and trees.

The building has a reflective roof which keeps it cool in the summer and is fully insulated meaning it’s warm during the colder months.

Before setting up the kennels Claire worked in farming and has run working Cocker spaniels most of her adult life. After a period of training other people’s dogs to work in the field, she decided opening a boarding kennels business was a natural progression.

She said: “When you’re training dogs for the field there is more discipline whereas with the kennels we get to cuddle and play with dogs, which is much more fun!”
