Five-star Spalding Golf Club bag their first South Lincs success of the season

Spalding Golf Club’s first team recorded a much-needed first league victory of the season with a thumping 5-1 triumph over Burghley Park.

The Spalding winners at the Surfleet course on Saturday were James Crampton and Richard McCrae, Dan Hines and Lloyd Chatham, Mark and Ollie Mitchell, Chris Moxon and Wayne Wallace and skipper Andy Grimwood and Hugo Kedzlie.

Having lost their first four South Lincolnshire Golf League Division One games of the season, the win is a real boost for Spalding’s top men’s team. They host Belton Park next on June 25.

  • Vice captain Mike Crampton led the Spalding social side in a 5.5-0.5 defeat away at Boston.

Only Dave Perrott and Wayne Flowers managed to grab a half for Spalding.

They did, however fare better later in the week with a 4.5-1.5 home win against Sutton Bridge.

Winning pairs for Spalding – who were again skippered by Crampton – were Sandy Watson and Geoff Skinner, Wayne Wallace and Pete Gooderson, Sam Sampson and John Patton, and Stewart Sharp and Bill Creasey, with Mike and Trevor Wright halving their match.

  • A closely fought mixed match saw Spalding fall to a narrow 5.5-4.5 defeat against King’s Lynn.

Winning pairs for Spalding were David and Paula Brown, Mike Crampton and Hannah Thorold, Neil West and Olive Gooderson, and Geoff Skinner and Ann Tasker, with Andy Reedman and Jackie Bailey-Scott halving their match.

  • Andy Rafferty and his Spalding 3rd team avenged their recent defeat away at Sandilands with a 4-2 home win. Winning pairs were Andy Rafferty and Ian Ford, Tommy Hull and Steve Worboys, Dick Parker and Pete Hull, with halves for Alan Jackson and John Cretney and Chris Hull and Johnny Barrett.
