Tydd St Mary need just one point from their final game to clinch a place in the ChromaSport PDFL Division Three play-offs after drawing 2-2 with Eye United on Saturday.
With Eye needing a win to have any chance of automatic promotion, it was always going to be a tricky test for the Saints.
Both sides had half chances in the first 20 minutes, but it was Tydd who took the lead on 22 when a great Stu Easey free kick was glanced in by the onrushing Dale Parnell.
The lead only lasted five minutes, though, as Eye levelled with an almost carbon copy goal.
The Saints came out with renewed vigour in the second half and they went back ahead when Andy Cook hassled an Eye defender on the byline and pulled the ball back for Tim Lowe to fire home from six yards out for 2-1.
Once again, Tydd only held onto their lead for a few minutes as Eye pulled another goal back to make it 2-2, which is how the scores stayed.
The Saints are now level on points with sixth-placed Thorpe Wood, who have already finished their league fixtures. That leaves Tydd needing just a draw at Whittlesey B on Saturday to take the final play-off position.

Saturday’s game against Hampton Sports ended up being a walkover win for Chris Page’s side – meaning they are six points behind second-placed Glinton and Northborough.
If Town could win at Whittlesey A on Wednesday night and follow it up with a home victory over Thorney Reserves at Knight Street on Saturday (noon) – and improve their goal difference by eight – they will take the second promotion place.
Failing that, they’ll have to settle for a place in the play-offs.
