Player/boss ruing what might have been this season for rampant Pinchbeck United

Pinchbeck United went second in the ChromaSport PDFL Premier Division table with a 3-1 win at Thorney on Saturday.(April 9)

Ian Dunn’s side have now lost just once since August 22 – a 1-0 home defeat by Whittlesey United on February 13 – and the player/manager is beginning to wonder what might have been had they got the season off to a better start.
He said: “If we could have had a slightly better star you don’t know how it would have gone, but we didn’t quite have a settled team to start with and lost three of the first five.”

Dunn scored twice in last weekend’s win and was pleased to have got the job done at a difficult place to win.
He felt Pinchbeck were not at their best – but was delighted to find other results went their way, which lifted them to their highest position of the season.

Pinchbeck led at half-time after a free kick was turned across the goal by Ash Murrell for Tom Brooks to score.
Nick Bishop and Louis Sae-Be both had chances to extend the lead before Dunn did so.
Tony Edwards used his long throw to good effect, releasing the alert Dunn to volley home from 20 yards.

Hard-working Thorney refused to lie down and threw players forward and bombarded the Pinchbeck defence.
One such long ball caused some confusion in the Pinchbeck box and a Luke Gardner own goal made it 2-1.

However, Dunn’s second eased any concerns. Edwards successfully chased what seemed like a lost cause to keep the ball in play and set up the player/boss.

Meanwhile, it was another classy performance from defender Jack Withers, who finished the game alongside two other 16-year-olds – Jack Brown and Conner Eyes.

Pinchbeck: Ashton, Bishop, A Murrell, Withers, B Murrell, Dunn, Gardner, Francis, Edwards, Sae-Be, Brooks. Subs: Brown, Eyes, Lawrence.
