Hot Harrox smash Stilton for six to move within ten points of Premier Division title

Mighty Moulton Harrox need just ten more points to be sure of the ChromaSport PDFL Premier Division title after cruising to a 6-1 win over Stilton United at Broad Lane on Tuesday night.

Despite losing skipper Billy King to a hamstring injury during the warm-up, Moulton were 3-0 up at the break thanks to a penalty from top scorer Ollie Maltby and two smashing strikes from Tom Panton, who opened his account for the season.

After the break Ben Allen volleyed home a cross from stand-in skipper Joe Townsend, before Macauley Grimwood lobbed home a fine fifth. Right back Phil Groves then rounded off the scoring will a bullet header from another Townsend delivery.

The win was unbeaten Harrox’s 26th from 27 league games – and leaves Dave Panton’s side a whopping 18 points clear at the top of the table.

“6.30pm kick-offs are a nightmare for all concerned,” admitted the Harrox boss. “But the lads rose to the occasion really well and executed their opportunities.

“The captain has a pulled hamstring but it was great to see other players stepping it up a gear, especially Townsend, who skippered the side well. Tom (Panton) also scored two great goals to ease the pressure.

“I was disappointed that we conceded a goal, but pleased the defenders were annoyed as well – showing their pride at keeping a clean sheet for the club.”

Moulton now host Netherton United on Saturday (2pm).

Harrox: Kenealy, Groves, Patterson, Coddington, Johnson, Panton (Grimwood), Watkin, Townsend, (Lambe-Hyner), Bradbury (Price), Maltby, Allen.
