Moulton Harrox took another huge step towards clinching the ChormaSport PDFL Premier Division title by beating second-placed Peterborough Sports Reserves 4-2 at Broad Lane on Saturday.
Jonny Clay headed home Billy King’s fifth-minute corner to give Harrox the perfect start, but they were pegged back when Jamie Graham converted a hugely controversial penalty.
Harrox’s leading scorer Ollie Maltby restored the home lead with a clinical finish just before the break.
Ben Allen got on the scoresheet after the interval to put Moulton 3-1 ahead, before Ian Bradbury’s composed finish made it four.
George Edwards bagged a consolation for Sports, but Harrox held firm to stretch their unbeaten league run to 26 games.
Boss Dave Panton said: “We have had a great month. Six games, six wins, 26 goals scored and conceding three.
“The lads are playing superbly well, working for each other and look very dangerous on attack.
“They have worked exceptionally hard from August and they know consistency is so important if we want to stay top of the league.
“The players are all experienced at this level which has helped me immensely to help the team achieve some great results.
“Sports are a very good strong team and a great UCL reserve team. Most of the players could step up a level if required, which is even more credit to our players, who have achieved the double over them this season.
“It’s not often a referee comes up to the manager and apologises for giving a penalty which clearly wasn’t. Credit to the referee for admitting the mistake.”
Harrox could move 20 points clear at the top tonight (Tuesday) if they beat Stilton at Broad Lane (6.30pm) and Peterborough Sports Reserves fail to win at Stanground.
