Late Bradbury winner sees unbeaten Harrox take a massive step towards title

Moulton Harrox raced 11 points clear at the top of the ChromaSport PDFL Premier Division after winning 2-1 at title rivals Peterborough Sports Reserves on Tuesday night.

A first-half header from Joe Townsend was cancelled out by Gary Gibbs in the second half, but sub Ian Bradbury buried the winner with ten minutes to go.

The win extends Moulton’s amazing unbeaten record in the top flight to 23 matches – and this was their 22nd win (they’ve been awarded three points by default after Deeping Rangers Reserves failed to raise a side for their game on February 13).

Boss Dave Panton admitted he was “buzzing” after the game – and felt his side produced another top performance.

He said: “It was an outstanding performance against a very good, strong and big PSL team.

“We didn’t play quite as well as we did away at Whittlesey recently, but the lads showed great character and were disciplined and patient.

“Townsend scored another header – and that’s incredible considering he’s the shortest player in the team. And for ‘Bradders’ to bury the winner was fantastic.

“We were all buzzing after the game – including the good number of supporters who made the trip and thoroughly enjoyed the game.

“We now turn our full attention to Saturday’s game back at home against Uppingham.”

Sports piled on plenty of pressure in the first period, but it was Moulton who went ahead when top scorer Ollie Maltby crossed for Townsend to nod home.

A rare defensive lapse from Bobby Patterson allowed Gibbs in to level after the interval, but Harrox were still full of confidence.

They introduced Bradbury soon after the equaliser and he ultimately made the difference, burying Billy King’s cross to secure a big victory.

Harrox: Kenealy, Groves, Johnson, Coddington, Patterson, King, Watkin, Allen (Bradbury), Mantle (Panton), Maltby, Townsend (Clay).
