Kidsgrove Athletic defeat damages Spalding United’s play-off chances

Spalding United’s hopes of reaching the Evo-Stik NPL Division One South play-offs were dealt a big blow on Saturday as they crashed 2-0 at Kidsgrove Athletic.

Goals from Anthony Malbon (62) and Joe Woolley (90) were enough to earn Kidsgrove the points – and sent the Tulips crashing down to tenth in the table.

They are, however, still nine points behind Lincoln United in the final play-off position ahead of Wednesday night’s trip to Carlton Town.

Elsewhere, Moulton Harrox scored their 100th ChromaSport PDFL Premier Division goal of the season as they dispatched Sawtry 4-0 at Broad Lane.

It’s now 20 wins and a draw from 21 Premier Division matches for Dave Panton’s table-toppers.

Pinchbeck United also enjoyed a 2-1 win at Ketton to stay fourth, while Holbeach United Reserves lost 1-0 at Deeping Rangers Reserves.

In Division One, Matt Cawthorn’s first game as Long Sutton Athletic player/boss ended with a fantastic 4-0 win over Netherton United Reserves.

The boss also got amongst the goals, as did new signing Tommy Treacher in the Division One clash.

Meanwhile, Spalding United Reserves and Pinchbeck United Reserves will clash in the PFA Challenge Cup final. The Tulips beat Wittering 3-0 at the Sir Halley, while Pinchbeck’s second string saw off Spalding Town 3-1 at Knight Street.
