Competition: £1,200 worth of gardening vouchers to be won

Primary schools and growers’ groups in South Holland could win gardening vouchers totalling £1,200.

And for those who register first there is also the chance to get a free specialist compost bins worth around £180 and one of 200 packs of giant pumpkin seeds.

The Anglian Water ‘Fat of the Land’ Composting Challenge, in association with Lincolnshire Community and Voluntary Service, is designed to get people growing things using composted food waste and raise awareness of the possibilities for recycling food waste and cooking oils and fats which can otherwise block drains and be harmful to the environment.

There will be £300 gardening vouchers for:

  • The fattest in the land pumpkin – grown by primary schools and growers’ groups (one prize each)
  • Best school project – primary schools undertaking an innovative gardening idea, like using an old boot as a plant pot or making use of a tiny area as an allotment
  • Best allotment association or growers’ group project – an innovative growing project, from community composting schemes, living walls made from recycled materials, wildflower meadows, herb gardens or innovative ways to involve local residents

Entries will be judged by an independent panel.
The contest is open to primary schools and gardening associations/growers’ groups based in the PE11, PE25 and PE21 areas.
Register before March 25. Competition entries must be submitted by 30 September. Pumpkins will be judged during the first week of October.
