Three projects are hoping to get the most votes this week to earn the top £12,000 grant in the Tesco Bags of Help scheme.
Fleet Wood Lane Primary School, Holbeach In Bloom and Spalding Monkhouse Primary School have already done enough to get at least £8,000 each, but they are all asking for people’s support to help them get a bit more. One of the projects will get the top prize and the runner-up will be awarded £10,000.
Tesco is investing proceeds from the 5p charge for carrier bags back into local communities. Customers receive a voting token for each transaction which can then be used instore. Voting for the latest round of projects closes on Sunday.
- Fleet Wood Lane Primary School wants to renovate its playground by improving the children’s play area, carrying out some landscaping and introducing a trim trail.
Chairman of the school’s Friends, Sonia Reid, said: “Being set within a very rural area and a small village we struggle to raise funds other than from our often very generous parents through events like discos and the spring fair.” - Holbeach In Bloom wants to replace railings around All Saints’ churchyard and have a seat made to commemorate the Queen’s 90th birthday.
Chairman Graham Rudkin said: “The churchyard is popular with people sitting there or walking through.” - Providing an outdoor gym on a soft surface area to encourage pupils’ health and wellbeing is the wish at Monkhouse Primary School.
Headteacher Sue Goodsell said: “It will be timetabled for use during school times and playtimes and will add an extra dimension to our PE and fitness provision. It is a very exciting opportunity.”
