England Counties under-18 call awaits top Spalding RFC teen Adam

Teenage Spalding RFC talent Adam Castle is waiting to discover if he’s earned an England Counties under-18 call-up after impressing while representing the Midlands.

Castle was selected for the Midlands under-18 side after a successful season playing for the Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire, Derbyshire under-18s team.

He had two trials during December and January, where Midlands selectors narrowed down over 60 players to a final squad of 23.

The Midlands warm-up game was played at Uppingham School against the Independent Schools England representative team, The Lambs, which the Midlands won 38-7.

Castle was then selected for the final England trial match against the North at Macclesfield last weekend.

He once again started on the left wing for the Midlands, who eventually won a very close encounter 21-17.

The England selectors will now deliberate over their final 23 man squad.

Castle is still only an under-17 player and therefore has a realistic expectation of being picked for the national side over the next 12 months.

He said: “It’s been a fantastic experience playing at this level with team mates a year older – and I don’t expect to be selected this year.

“But I’ll definitely be aiming for that next year.”

Castle plays his rugby for Bourne Grammar School and Spalding RFC, having previously been involved in the Leicester Tigers development group.
