Leicester Nirvana test is the ‘ideal game’ for Holbeach United after Yaxley loss

Bullish boss Tom Roberts insists that his Holbeach United side will come out fighting against ChromaSport UCL Premier Division leaders Leicester Nirvana on Saturday.

The Tigers welcome Nirvana – six points clear of second-placed Kempston Rovers at the top – to Carter’s Park (3pm) for what is the undoubted game of the day.

It’s the first meeting of the two teams this season, with fifth-placed Holbeach still very much in the title picture despite Monday’s 1-0 loss to Yaxley (see report below).

The fifth-placed Tigers are ten points behind their opponents, but do have two games in hand.

A win would do wonders for Holbeach’s title hopes – and Roberts reckons that playing the top teams brings out the best in his talented team.

“Monday wasn’t the best way for us to go into the Nirvana game,” said the Tigers boss. “But it’s definitely the best game for us to bounce back in.

“After a loss like Monday, you don’t want to be playing an average team.

“You want a higher level side as it should bring a response out of the lads.

“If you look at our performances, we seem to do better against the stronger sides.

“It’s a tough game, but we know what we need to do. We have to bounce back with a win on Saturday.

“It’s the ideal opportunity for us to right some wrongs. We have to take Monday’s loss on the chin and offer some sort of reaction.”

Josh Ford is unavailable for the next month, while skipper Jamie Stevens is struggling with a broken rib.

Jake Clitheroe is also carrying a knock but is expected to feature, while Tommy Treacher’s availability remains unclear.
