Joe Townsend scored another goal to remember as in-form Moulton Harrox cruised to a 4-0 PFA Senior Cup win at Thorney on Saturday.
The attacker displayed fantastic quick thinking to fire home a free kick from the halfway line following a large scuffle between both teams.
It was part of a brace for the Harrox ace, with midfielder Ollie Maltby bagging the other two goals at Campbell Drive.
In awful footballing conditions, Dave Panton’s Moulton were very dominant. Playing with the wind behind them in the first half, Premier Division leaders Harrox pressed high up the pitch to pile pressure on the home defence.
Maltby got Moulton off the mark with a powerful drive, before Townsend finished a great move to make it 2-0.
Then came Townsend’s impressive second, as he fired home from long range to take advantage of the keeper arguing with referee Nigel Thorold.
With Jonny Clay starting for the first time since re-joining the club, Harrox were very solid against the wind in the second half.
They duly rounded off the win when Ben Allen showed great pace to set up Maltby’s second.
Boss Panton said: “It was another great performance in shocking footballing conditions. The lads didn’t let the conditions get the better of them and executed the gameplan superbly, especially in the second half against the wind.
“Townsend’s superb quick thinking goal proves the team are full of confidence, but we will take one game at a time and continue to give 100 per cent to the club.
“The lads deserve great credit for their performances lately and I couldn’t ask for anymore – which is really pleasing every Saturday.”
