End of long road to get Holbeach path installed

The wait of more than 30 years to get a proper footpath for a popular pedestrian route in Holbeach is over.

Issues over land ownership and public rights of way hampered efforts to get a path – known locally as Skinners Chase – installed between Langwith Gardens and Stukeley Hall Drive.
Coun Francis Biggadike, in particular, has put a lot of effort into getting it registered as a footpath and keeping it top of the agenda.

County councillor Nick Worth subsequently took up the challenge and promised to deliver it as part of his election manifesto.

Thanks to Holbeach firm Ashley King Developments and a petition led by Helen Scott and parish councillors Graham and Carol Rudkin, a Tarmac footpath has been installed by Tyrrell’s Contractors.

Coun Worth said: “The many residents from both Langwith Gardens and St Matthews Close will at last be able to enjoy a pleasant walk into the town, without walking through mud and water as they have for over 30 years.
“There will even be a bench installed for those wanting to take a rest half way down the footway.
“I would like to thank Ashley King for making this happen, along with the positive pressure from the residents and local councillors.”

Ashley King said: “We are delighting to assist the community in the delivery of a much-needed footpath link.
“I have no doubt it will make a large difference to many people, providing a safe and accessible pathway for all to use.”
